Alicia Simmons LMHC, RPT

Alicia Simmons is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with the state of Florida and a Registered Play Therapist through the Association for Play Therapy. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Florida Gulf Coast University and continued her postgraduate studies by earning a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Her studies included training in the connections between neuroscience and psychotherapy and the practice of mindfulness-based, cognitive, trauma-focused, object relations, and Adlerian therapies.

Experienced in treating complex trauma and co-occurring mental health diagnoses, as well as adjustment to life transitions, Alicia has worked with children, adolescents, and adults in residential and outpatient treatment settings. She is a Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional through the International Association of Trauma Professionals and has received training in multiple trauma-focused disciplines including cognitive, play-based, and mindfulness treatment approaches.

Alicia is a professional member of the American Counseling Association and the Association for Creativity in Counseling (a division of the ACA). She was a co-presenter at the ACA 2018 National Conference and is also a member of the Association for Play Therapy.

In addition to her work as a therapist, Alicia is a Certified Yoga Instructor through Yoga Alliance and a Certified Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist through the Himalayan Institute.

Alicia embraces a holistic and relaxed approach to the counseling process with the intention of holding space for clients in a way that helps them to feel safe, supported, and empowered.  She strives to meet clients where they are, using compassion, creativity, and authenticity to help clients meet their goals.
